Timika (ANTARA News) – Dozens of Commercial Sex Workers (PSK) in the localization of prostitution Kilometer 10, Timika, Papua, tested positive for HIV. According to data received from the AFP National AIDS Commission (NAC) Mimika District, in Timika, Wednesday, about 10 percent of the PSK Kilo 10 of about 294 people already infected with HIV.
“Around 20-25 people Kilometers commercial sex workers are HIV-positive 10, till now still working actively. It is feared will increase the number of HIV cases in Mimika,” said Secretary of KPA Mimika, Reynold Ubra.
Reynolds suggested that residents of Timika extra vigilant when visiting the localization of prostitution and if “forced” it must use a condom safety device alias while having sex.
Since a few years ago with the Department of Mimika KPA Public Health & Malaria Control (PHMC) PT Freeport Indonesia provides free condoms in the localization of Kilo 10.
Even Mimika KPA officers recruited two people who always stand by every moment of monitoring the use of condoms to commercial sex workers.
“For sex workers exposed to sexually transmitted infections (STIs) we give witness firm and must rest until the new well could open another practice,” explained Reynolds.
According to Reynolds, the commercial sex workers in the Kilometer 10 every two times a week get health care by health workers from PHMC PT Freeport. But not so with the commercial sex workers who impersonate any wild masseur, waiter at the bar and others because their existence is difficult to reach staff.
One of the Commercial Sex Workers in the Kilometer 10 named Yanti currently actively involved as a volunteer HIV / AIDS and people living with HIV co. Yanti even sent following the national conference of sex workers all over Indonesia in Jakarta from November 2-4 with all costs borne AIDS Care Commission (KPA) Mimika.
Cooperation with Community Development Agency Amungme Kamoro (LPMAK)
In an effort to curb HIV / AIDS cases in Mimika, AIDS Care Commission (NAC) is a local collaboration with the Community Development Institute and Kamoro Amungme (LPMAK) for counseling HIV / AIDS in four priority areas namely Kokonao, Ayuka, Banti and Old Kwamki(Kwamki Lama) . To support the operational activities of KPA Mimika, the local regency allocates Rp2, 5 billion in budget 2009. Financial support for HIV / AIDS in Mimika also comes from the Global Fund and the Central Government through the program “Save Papua”.
Until the end of June 2009, the number of cases of HIV / AIDS in Mimika has reached 2005 cases and is the highest number of cases in Papua province and even in Indonesia.
From January to June 2009, occurred the addition of 111 new HIV cases and 101 new AIDS cases by the number of patients who died reached more than 30 people with symptoms of AIDS. From the 111 new HIV cases, three of which hit a new teen sitting on a bench-Junior High School Junior(SMP).
